FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Junior Heidi Kucera and sophomore Amanda Holman earned "B" final swims and raced on top-finishing UC Davis relay teams against some of the best competition in the country to lead the Aggies during the first day of the Husky Invitational at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center Thursday.
UC Davis scored 119 points on the first day of the three-day invite and sits 11th in the 13-team field. Nationally-ranked USC leads the overall standings with 740 points.
Kucera qualified for the "B" finals in the 200-yard individual medley with a prelim time of 2:05.77. She improved her time by over a second to 2:04.71 in the final swim to earn the best Aggie individual finish of 12th. She also earned a second swim in the 50 freestyle. Kucera then teamed with Holman, senior Mary Struempf and freshman Katelyn Griffin to place seventh in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:57.49.
Individually, Holman qualified for the 50 free "B" final with her prelim mark of 23.85. She grabbed a 15th-place showing in the second swim by bettering her time by .01 seconds. Later, she competed on both 400 medley and 200 free relay teams. The free relay team of Holman, freshman Kayleigh Foley, sophomore Samantha Capozzo and senior Emily Medved finished seventh in 1:36.96.
UC Davis returns for the second day of the invite tomorrow morning with prelims.
