Complete Results

STOCKTON, Calif. - Sophomore Linda Hermann and juniors Heidi Kucera and Scott Weltz each won events as the UC Davis swimming teams opened its 2008-09 seasons Saturday afternoon at the Pacific Invitational at the Chris Kjeldson Pool. The men's team finished 377.5 and the women with 247 points in their only day at the event.

UC Davis did not compete during the first day of the invite and finished last in the standings. Stanford won the men's team title with 1,006.5 points while Washington State won the women's title with 912 points.

In his first meet after redshirting last season, Weltz won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:52.70 and finished top five in the 200 breastroke (2:06.40) and 100 backstroke (52.40).

Kucera put in a similar performance as she picked up a win the 200 breast in 2:17.64 and finished third in the 200 IM (2:07.13). Hermann picked up a win in the 500 freestyle in 5:02.42.

The men's team also enjoyed solid third-place performances in the both relay events. The team of seniors Evan Kraus and Trent Richardson, junior Russ Underwood and freshman Alex Daneke went 1:26.58 in the 200 free. The 800 free team of seniors Adam Pluemer and Alex Arbios, junior Ed Morrison and freshman Derek Baldwin went 7:16.88.

Junior Daniel Donnelly scored a second-place finish in the 100 fly (50.93) and was third in the 200 butterfly (1:52.83).

The women had a fourth-place showing in the 200 free relay and were sixth in the 800 free relay. Amanda Holman, Jen Cadmus, Amber Bonds and Emily Medved went 1:38.31 in the 200 free.

UC Davis continues its season and will be joined by the diving teams next Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. dual at UC Santa Cruz.
