FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Curtis Da Silva shot an even-par 70 Friday to finish fourth individually and lead the UC Davis men's golf team to a tie for sixth at the Ram Masters Invitational at Fort Collins Country Club.
The Aggies closed their season opener with a 9-over 289, finishing the 54-hole tournament at 861 (287-285-289), 21-over par. UC Davis shared sixth place with Tulsa in the 16-team field season opening tournament.
Da Silva finished at 1-under 209 (70-69-70), recording all three rounds at par or better on the par-70, 7,234-yard course. The senior was one of four players to finish under par. He birdied Nos. 1, 7 and 9 Friday to play the front nine in 2-under 33 before completing his second even-par round of the tournament.
Shaun Nair carded a 72 in the final round, highlighted by three consecutive birdies on Nos. 13-15. The junior played the back nine without a bogey for a 3-under 32 and finished at 9-over 219 (75-72-72), tied for 38th alongside teammates Ryan Firpo, Cooper Greenwood and Treed Huang.
Huang posted his third consecutive 73, while Greenwood closed his Aggie debut with a 74 after opening rounds of 72 and 73. Firpo followed rounds of 72 and 71 with a final-round 76.
Competing as an individual, Zhenxian Zhang shot a 75 Friday to finish tied for 47th at 10-over 220 (69-76-75).
San Francisco won the team title at 9-over 849, three strokes ahead of Cal State Fullerton and Utah Tech. The Dons' Nils Svanberg earned individual medalist honors with an 8-under 202 after a final-round 64.
UC Davis returns to competition Sept. 19-21 at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.
