IRVINE Calif. – The UC Davis track and field team officially opened the postseason on Friday, as
Justin Reichenberg and
Charlie Bowers completed the first half of the decathlon at the Big West Multi-Event Championships. Under the sun at UC Irvines Anteater Stadium, both Aggies navigated the first five events of the competition to set the stage for Saturday's finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore
Justin Reichenberg put together a strong opening day, finishing the first five events in fifth place overall with 3,472 points. His afternoon was fueled by a top-three finish in the 100m dash, where he clocked an 11.23 to take third place. Reichenberg followed that performance by securing fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 6.64m and taking sixth in the shot put (11.85m). He remained consistent through the late session, earning sixth place in the high jump (1.79m) and closing his day with a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash, crossing the line in 52.17.
Freshman
Charlie Bowers made his conference championship debut, ending Day 1 in ninth place with 2,895 points. Bowers started his day by taking seventh place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.56 and followed up with a ninth-place finish in the long jump (6.01m). He added two more ninth-place finishes in the shot put (10.47m) and high jump (1.55m) before finishing the day with an eighth-place result in the 400m dash, posting a time of 54.33.
Reichenberg and Bowers will return to Anteater Stadium tomorrow to conclude the 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, and javelin throw. These final four events will finalize the multi-event standings and determine the official podium spots to kick off the conference championship season.
