Track & Field: Aggies Close Out Regular Season with 17 Event Victories at Causeway Classic

DAVIS Calif. – The UC Davis Track and Field team hosted Sacramento State for the annual Causeway Classic Dual on Friday, April 24. Highlighting the home meet, the Aggies secured 17 individual event victories across a competitive day of action at Toomey Field. Despite the strong individual showings, Sacramento State claimed the dual wins on both sides, with the Aggie women falling in a narrow 101-97 decision and the men being edged out 102.5-92.5.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN)
 
The Aggie men dominated the throwing events, led by Jake Joerger who claimed a pair of first-place finishes in both the Discus (50.66m) and the Shot Put (16.19m). Logan Brantley added to the success in the rings with a victory in the Hammer throw (52.81m). In the jumps, Daren Randolph secured the top spot in the Long Jump with a leap of 7.05m, while Aidan Hagerty cleared 5.07m to take first in the Pole Vault.
 
On the track, Christian Taylor outpaced the field in the 800m (1:53.44), Ethan Brooks won the 5000m (14:59.11), and Chris Coles led an Aggie sweep in the 3000m Steeplechase with a winning time of 9:28.72. Brenden Park rounded out the men's victories with a first-place finish in the Javelin (52.12m).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN)
 
The Aggie women saw a standout performance from Maya Shinnick, who swept the sprint titles by taking first in both the 400m (53.89) and the 200m (24.31). Avah Reichow added a win on the track in the 400m Hurdles, clocking a 1:01.85, while Brooke Butler earned a first-place finish in the 5000m with a time of 17:21.00.
 
In the field events, Kadidja Sangare took home the Long Jump title with a mark of 5.83m. The vertical jumps featured two more Aggie winners as Atianna Marquez cleared 3.85m to win the Pole Vault and Elizabeth Churchill took first in the High Jump at 1.66m. Hailey Hernandez provided the final victory for the women's side, winning the Hammer with a toss of 50.37m.
 
UP NEXT: The Aggies head into postseason play as they prepare for the Big West Championships.
