DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis track and field opened its outdoor campaign this weekend, securing 23 event victories to highlight the two-day Aggie Open at home. Bolstered by 13 wins from the women's squad and 10 from the men's, the Aggies finished with a total of 164 points to lead the field in their first appearance of the spring season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN):
The men's squad recorded 10 event titles on the day, led by
Jacob Beals who secured four total victories. Beals recorded a double in the sprints, taking first in the 100m (10.73) and 200m (22.08) while contributing to both first-place relay squads.
Luke Wales also earned a win in the 400m dash, finishing in 49.15.
In the hurdles,
Justin Reichenberg won the 110m hurdles (15.62) and
Kodjo Kouwonou took the 400m hurdles in 57.93. On the distance side,
Lucas Tam led the field in the 3000m run with a time of 9:15.00.
In the field,
Jake Joerger earned two individual titles, winning both the discus (49.56m) and the shot put (16.55m). The men's relay teams also secured wins in the 4x100m, ran by Beals, Zachary Jones,
Riley Leyva, and
Kit Parker (42.00), and the 4x400m, featuring Beals,
Christian Taylor, Leyva, and Wales (3:19.95).
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN):
The UC Davis women recorded 13 first-place finishes, headlined by
Kylee Davis, who earned four event wins on the day. Davis secured victories in the long jump (5.90m), high jump (1.63m), and 100m dash (11.86), in addition to a first-place finish with the 4x100m relay.
Anicia Garvin also doubled in the sprints, taking first in the 200m (24.99) and 400m (57.81).
On the track, the Aggies earned victories from
Kadidja Sangare in the 100m hurdles (13.88),
Dominika Janik in the 800m (2:13.95), and
Gracie Trenam in the 3000m run (10:17.05).
Stormy Wallace opened the day's track events with a win in the 5000m (17:44.77).
In the field, the Aggies saw wins from
Riley Lankford in the triple jump (11.31m),
Ningning O'Brien in the discus (46.07m), and
Atianna Marquez in the pole vault (3.70m). The women's relay squads also finished first in both the 4x100m, ran by Davis,
Rujeko Munetsi,
Lily Holman, and
Maya Shinnick (47.03), and the 4x400m, featuring Garvin,
Katie Coppersmith,
Francesca Castro, and
Elle Middleton (4:04.35).
