Score: UC Davis 7, Stanford 23
Location: Davis, Calif. (UC Davis Health Stadium)
Records: UC Davis 0-1, Stanford 1-0
OPENING DRAW
- Horrocks' three goals mark the second straight year an Aggie freshman has had a hat trick in their debut.
- That other freshman was Jane Fox, who followed up her All-Newcomer campaign from a year ago with a pair of goals.
- Cami Johnson also had a pair of points, assisting on two goals.
- Audrey Carr and Holly Smith rounded out the Aggie scorers, each tallying a goal. For Smith, it was also her first collegiate point.
- In her first game as starting goalkeeper, Emily Altshuler collected three saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After seeing the Cardinal get on the board first, Fox took a pass from Johnson for the first goal of the year for the Aggies.
- The Davis defense held their opponent in check, with saves by Altshuler and caused turnovers from Samantha Riely making it 2-1 in favor of the road team after the first.
- After Stanford went on an 11-0 run through the second and third quarters, Carr found the back of the net on the free position attempt for her first goal.
- Four minutes later, Smith gave Johnson her second point when she scored her first goal of the season.
- Heading into the fourth quarter, Horrocks began to take over, getting her first goal on a free position attempt just 30 seconds into the period.
- Her second goal came unassisted before she secured a hat trick on the man advantage with two minutes left in regulation.
- In the final seconds of the game, Fox got her second score, but Stanford would secure a 23-7 win in the season opener.
