DAVIS, Calif. — A career-high five goals from
Lauren Picardi led UC Davis lacrosse in a back-and-forth game with the USC Trojans on Friday, Feb. 20. The Aggies got as close as one with seconds remaining, but they would ultimately fall 11-12.

OPENING DRAW
- Picardi's five goal day came on six shots (83.3%).
- Jane Fox also secured a hat trick with three scores.
- Catie McCauley and Lola Chai rounded out the Aggie scorers, with McCauley getting a pair of goals and Chai scoring once.
- Ava Horrocks continues her strong freshman campaign with four assists.
- Annie Cimperman had another solid day in the circle with seven draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After seeing the Trojans get the first two on the board, Picardi tied things up with her first two of the day off passes from Cami Johnson.
- As both teams looked to break the tie, Fox gave her team their first lead off an assist from Avery Williams, giving them a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.
- Scores from Picardi and Chai extended the Aggie lead to three two minutes into period number two.
- But USC responded quickly, using the next quarter of action to build a 9-5 lead into the start of the second half.
- The Aggies struck back with three goals on three straight possessions, with Picardi, McCauley, and Fox going back-to-back-to-back to put the home team back within one.
- Following a goalkeeper change, the Trojans got back on the board with one before Picardi took her fifth to the back of the net to bring the score to 9-10 heading into the final period.
- With less than a minute remaining in regulation and USC up by three, UC Davis valiantly fought back into the game starting with a second score from McCauley.
- After a won draw control and quick timeout, Horrocks found Fox for the quick strike to put the home team within striking distance.
- On the next possession, the Aggies would win yet another draw control, but the final shot would go just high, leading UC Davis to a close 11-12 loss.
