UC Davis Opens Its Home Schedule With The Aggie Round Up

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis men's water polo opens competition at the Schaal Aquatics Center this Saturday, Sept. 6, when they host the annual Aggie Round Up featuring San Jose State, Stanford, and American River College. The Aggies will face off against Stanford to open the day at 10:00 a.m. PT before playing San Jose State at 3:00 p.m. PT.

GAME NOTES
  • Top-Flight Competition: After knocking off the #7-ranked Pepperdine Waves at the Triton Invitational last Sunday, the Aggies are back to face a pair of top ten teams in this weekend's tournament. In this week's CWPA rankings, Stanford came in at #4 in the nation while San Jose State was ranked #6.
  • Goal Scorers: Davis' 3-1 start to the season was led by high-level performances by Thomas Kiesling and Oleg Shatskikh at the Triton Invitational. Kiesling went for seven points (five goals, two assists) to lead the way for the Aggies in their win against Pepperdine, ending the weekend with 11 total goals. Shatskikh also claimed a hat trick versus the Waves, scoring three goals on four shots. He ended the tournament with seven goals on nine shots for a .778 shooting percentage.
  • 2024 Recap: UC Davis went 10-14 and finished their season with a Big West Semifinals defeat to UC San Diego.
  • 2025 Poll: The Aggies were picked fourth in the Big West preseason coaches' poll, receiving 13 points.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
  • Stanford enters the weekend 1-0 after a 15-8 win over #16 Loyola Marymount last weekend.
  • The Cardinal are coming off an NCAA semifinal appearance in the 2024 season, falling to eventual champion UCLA.
  • Davis faced off against Stanford three times last season, with the Cardinal winning all three matchups.
  • San Jose State are 3-1 on the season, beating Santa Barbara, Long Beach State, and La Verne before falling to USC at the Triton Invitational.
  • The Spartans are led by Preseason All-WCC players Mateja Bosić and Brendon Gyapjas, who were First-Team All-Conference and All-American Honorable Mentions last season. Bosić led the team last season with 45 goals and 44 assists.
