DAVIS, Calif. - Former UC Davis basketball superstar
Tova Sabel has signed a professional contract with Italian basketball club Fila San Martino di Lupari, competing in Serie A1, the top-level sports league in Italy.
"I am very excited and grateful to begin this new chapter of my professional career in Italy." Said Sabel. "I can't wait to grow both as a player and as a person, embrace a new culture, and contribute everything I have to the team. I can't wait to get started!"
Founded in 1979, Fila San Martino di Lupari has consistently competed among the best clubs in Italian basketball, being crowned the Italian A2 North Champions in 2013 before being promoted to A1 shortly after.
Most recently, the team went 11-9 during the 2024-25 season, finishing fourth in the league and making it to the Italian League Semifinals.
Transferring to UC Davis after two seasons with Penn State, Sabel has become one of the most decorated players in program history, finishing her career eighth all-time in career points scored while becoming just the 20th player to score 1,000+ points for the Aggies.
Her success on the court and in the classroom has also led to a number of accolades for Sabel, including Big West Honorable Mention (2023), Big West All-Academic (2024 & 2025), Second Team All-Big West (2024), First Team All-Big West (2025), and CSC Academic All-District (2024 & 2025). In addition, she was also named to the 2025 Big West All-Tournament Team and the 2025 NCAA Week 9 Starting Five during her senior campaign.
Over the last two seasons, Sabel's leadership has led to back-to-back winning seasons for the Aggies, making it to the 2024 and 2025 Big West Conference Championship Game appearances.
The entire Aggie family wishes Tova the best of luck as she embarks on the next chapter of her journey.
