Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – In the quarterfinals of the Big West Championships, the No. 5 seeded Aggies fall to No. 4 San Diego Tritons in a high-scoring cutthroat game to advance to the next round of conference championships.
Senior
Sam Yoo led the Aggies in goals with three in the game. Senior
Kelly Hungerford was a cross-pool threat; adding three assists and three steals.
Junior goalkeeper
Lucy Holland defended the net in the first half, making seven big saves against the conference competitors.
Eva Stein came in as reprieve for the second half, logging four saves and a steal.
Final Score: UC Davis 10, UCSD 15
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Gianna Nocetti took the first win of the game off the sprint for the Ags. The Tritons came up on the Ags quick, but a converted penalty from
Sam Yoo put them back in the game during the first period; the goal scoring exclusion drawn by
Liberty Massman.
Early in the second, the Ags gain some speed with a second goal from
Sam Yoo, assisted by Nocetti. Following the ever-growing momentum, Nocetti added a goal off
Kelly Hungerford's pass. Lefty
Maddie Sumner logged the Aggies' fourth of the game by thundering another five meter penalty conversion to the back of the net.
At the end of the first half, the team was down 4-7 to the Tritons.
Early in the third,
Bridget Miller finds the fire and beats the Triton goalie. Sophomore Ali Giusti adds another to the score, then Yoo scores a hat trick with an extra player advantage.
In the fourth, Nocetti,
Lillie Vehling, and
Madison Sparre scored to stave the Tritons away, but it wasn't enough as the Ags come down with a 10-15 loss to end the season.
