Women’s Water Polo Set to Host CSUN in Regular Season Home Finale

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis women's water polo returns to Schaal Aquatic Center tomorrow, Saturday, April 4, for its regular season finale against CSUN at 12:00 p.m. PT. Following the Big West matchup, the Aggies will host a Senior Day ceremony to honor the 2026 graduating class.

GAME NOTES
  • Last Time Out: The Aggies are 13-12 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. Last weekend, the team traveled to Southern California for a three-game road sweep, headlined by a thrilling 12-11 victory over No. 15 UC San Diego on Friday, Mar. 27, where a final buzzer save by Eva Stein secured the Aggies' first regulation win over the Tritons since 2022. The momentum continued through the weekend with a 17-13 win over Brown on Saturday and a 12-6 conference victory over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
  • Top Goal Scorers: Chelsea Johnson continues to lead the Aggies, netting five goals over the Southern California road weekend to bring her team-leading total to 46 goals on the season. Close behind her are Gianna Nocetti and Ashley Wallin, who sit at 40 and 35 goals, respectively. Wallin continues to serve as the team's top distributor, leading the Big West in assists (60). 
  • 2025 Recap: UC Davis finished the 2025 season 13-15 with a fifth place finish in the Big West Conference. The Aggies fell to UC San Diego in the Big West Quarterfinals.
  • 2025 Poll: The Aggies were picked tied for fourth in the Big West preseason poll, receiving 28 points.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
  • CSUN enters the game with a 17-7 record and a 2-3 mark in Big West play, most recently dropping a 16-9 decision to UC Irvine on March 26 and a 22-6 contest against Long Beach State on March 28. 
  • The Matadors' attack is led by Mira Dravucz, who has tallied 61 goals on the season with a .545 shooting percentage, ranking her fourth in the Big West for total goals. 
  • Defensively, goalkeeper Erika Staine anchors the team in the cage with 143 saves on the year to go along with 24 steals. 
  • The Aggies and Matadors last squared off during the 2025 season on March 27, where UC Davis walked away with a 17-11 victory.
SEASON NOTES
  • UC Davis is led by Jamey Wright and Hodgens Family Director of Women's Water Polo Kandace Waldthaler, who enters her fourth season as head coach and 15th season overall on staff.
  • Returning for her third season is former Aggie and current assistant coach Dakotah Sturla.
  • The Aggies return a strong core of returning players. Coming off an appearance at the 2025 World Aquatics U20 Water Polo Championships, Chelsea Johnson enters year three looking to use her international experience to elevate the Aggies to new heights. After leading the offense a year ago, Bridget Miller also enters her third season for the team, being selected to the preseason All-Big West Team.
  • Despite the departure of all-time assist leader Kelly Hungerford, UC Davis brings in a strong recruiting class, with Hanalora Abel, Adi Englebert, Megan Garner, Audrey Quilala, and Sydney Rubin joining the Aggies.
  • With the team joining the Golden Coast Conference in 2027, this season will mark the last in the Big West for the Aggies.
