FULLERTON, Calif. — Hat tricks from
Gianna Nocetti and
Chelsea Johnson powered UC Davis women's water polo to a 12-6 win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, March 29. The conference victory officially secures a perfect 3-0 sweep of the SoCal road weekend for the Aggies.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ashley Wallin opened the scoring for UC Davis, netting the first goal of the game off an assist from Liberty Massman.
- Gianna Nocetti followed with two back-to-back goals, including one assisted by Sadie Henry.
- Henry found the back of the net shortly after with an assist from Wallin to extend the lead.
- Chelsea Johnson scored on a power play via another Henry assist to secure a 5-0 scoring run for the Aggies.
- Cal State Fullerton responded with two goals late in the first period to bring the score to 5-2.
- After a defensive battle through most of the second quarter, the Titans converted a power play with three minutes remaining.
- Fullerton added one more goal with four seconds left in the half to cut the UC Davis lead to 5-4 at the break.
- Wallin opened the third period with her second goal of the day on a power play, assisted by Nocetti.
- Following a series of defensive exchanges, Fullerton scored with just over a minute left in the frame before Johnson answered immediately for the Aggies to make it 7-5.
- Nocetti secured her hat trick to open the fourth quarter, converting a five-meter penalty shot.
- Johnson followed shortly after with her third goal of the match to secure a hat trick of her own.
- The Titans netted a goal to narrow the lead to 9-6 before several minutes of defensive stops and turnovers on both sides.
- Margo Tempel ended the scoring drought with a power-play goal assisted by Wallin.
- With 34 seconds remaining, freshman Addison Engelbert found the back of the net for her first goal of the game.
- Alison Giusti solidified the 12-6 victory in the final second of the match, scoring off an assist from Katy Westphal to cap the undefeated weekend.
UP NEXT: The Aggies will return home to host their regular-season finale against CSUN for a Big West conference clash on Saturday, April 4. UC Davis will celebrate Senior Day at Schaal Aquatics Center with a scheduled start time of 12:00 p.m. PT.
