Final Score: UC Davis 10, Hawai'i 17
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Early in the first, the hosting Wahine struck fast: taking advantage of a penalty foul called against the Aggies, then finding the back of the net one more time to start the game off on a 2-0 run. Junior attacker
Madison Sparre burst that initial run for Hawai'i, crafting the perfect opportunity to convert the 6-on-5 advantage and scoring from
Maddie Sumner's pass.
The Aggies began to pick up pace in the second, starting with redshirt junior
Gianna Nocetti's win off the sprint. Still fired up from the race to the middle, Nocetti found the power and deposited the second Aggie goal off a penalty shot. After Hawai'i scored again, sophomore
Ashley Wallin retaliated quickly with a goal of her own. Going into half, the Ags were down 3-9.
Off the laneline and charged for the second half, Nocetti won her second sprint of the night and converted her second goal off the powerplay. Continuing to be offensive threats, sophomore center
Bridget Miller found the back of the net with senior
Kelly Hungerford's guidance. The powerplays seem to be clicking tonight as freshman
Margo Tempel scores the final goal of the third. Goalkeeper
Lucy Holland took up arms for the second part of the game and only let in two during her first eight minutes.
After the first quarter, Nocetti corralled the rest of the sprints to start the quarter off right. After a few minutes of offensive lull in the fourth, Nocetti struck again: scoring a hat trick against the Rainbow Wahine's defense. Sophomore defender
Alison Giusti took a crack at the Wahine cage, scoring off of Wallin's perfect setup. As the game clock waned, Wallin hands the ball to sophomore
Lillie Vehling to convert to yet another Aggie goal. In the final seconds, junior
Ally Smith beats the goalie with another goal.
At the end, despite matching the hosting team 7-7 in goals during the second half, the first half had doomed the Aggies to an 10-17 loss in paradise.
