Box Score STANFORD, Calif. – As the conference season of portion has come upon the Aggies, the team had a chance to hone their skills and battle against the No. 1 ACWPC ranked Stanford for a non-conference showdown.
This season, Stanford has allowed eight or fewer goals to get past their defense out of their twelve games played. On January 25th, the Ags scored eight to match post the highest scoring game against the team. During the March 2nd contest, the Ags broke this statistic for the Cardinal defense and headed into the double digits of goals scored against the No. 1 team.
Senior captain
Kelly Hungerford scored the first point for the Aggies in the field, holding its own until junior
Ally Smith added another point to the board off a 6-on-5 advantage in the waning seconds of the first quarter. Sophomore
Chelsea Johnson also added a goal in the first half of the game to keep the Ags afloat.
However, the Aggies refused to take a beating after a 3-11 first half and picked up their momentum in the second half of play versus the Cardinal and outscored them by two points. Beginning the charge was redshirt junior
Gianna Nocetti, scoring early in the third to be the offensive spark the Ags hoped for.
Ally Smith followed suit and registered her second goal of the game as well, then
Maddie Sumner found the back of the net as well.
In the fourth quarter, the Ags scored five with two from Johnson to score a hat trick in the game, and one apiece from freshman
Margo Tempel and sophomores
Sadie Henry and
Bridget Miller.
Johnson led the team in goals with three and added an assist, while Hungerford added in two assists on the match.
