The short story: After securing the early doubles point, the UC Davis women's tennis team narrowly lost 3-4 to UC San Diego in a close matchup, with tight singles battles preventing the Aggies from clinching the dual-match. 

COURTSIDE 

• The Aggies took the early lead, grabbing the doubles point.  

• Daisy Maunupau and Mika Ikemori won their doubles match. 

• Solia Valentine and Polina Marakhtanova won their doubles match. 

• Graduate student Valentine also won her singles match. 

• Junior Maya Youssef won her singles match. 

• The Tritons won four out of six singles matches and clinched the dual match. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Aggies opened up the morning with doubles where Maunupau and Ikemori finished first taking down their Triton opponents in a dominating match. 

• Next to finish was the pair of Valentine and Marakhtanova who were also successful in holding off their opponents giving the Aggies the early lead with the doubles point. 

• The pair of Claire Galerkin and Kaia Wolfe were unsuccessful in beating their opponents. 

• The first two Aggies to finish in singles were Wolfe and freshman Penelope Wong who were taken down by their opponents in two sets making the score 2-1. 

• Next to fall was freshman Marakhtanova who also lost in two sets making the score 3-1 forcing the Aggies to pull it together and win three straight singles matches in order to win. 

• The Aggies were able to win the next two singles matches with Valentine taking her match to two sets and Youssef to three, making the score 3-3. 

• It all came down to sophomore Ikemori, but unfortunately she was unable to fend off her Triton opponent and went down in two clean sets.
