Â
OPENING TIP
- Tonight was the eighth opening-night win for UC Davis head coach Jennifer Gross.
- Bennett's 21 points broke her previous career-high of 19, which she set in last year's regular season finale against UC San Diego.
- 35 points from Jessup is the least amount of points the Aggies have allowed in a season-opener since 1981, when they allowed 25 points against UC Santa Cruz.
- Six blocks from Megan Norris put her over 100 in her career. She also led the team with over 32 minutes on the night.
- In their first collegiate careers, the Aggie freshmen played big minutes and each got on the board. Emmy Ersdala led the way with nine points with two threes, Carrington Davis had five points, and Sophie Lentfer had two points.
- In her first game in the blue and gold, Tegan Young got the start with five points and three assists, tying for the team lead.
- Making her collegiate debut after battling injuries the last two years, Theoni Tsami played five minutes while grabbing four rebounds.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Nya Epps got the first basket of the season with a jumper in the paint before Young got her first as an Aggie just a minute later.
- Jumpers by Norris and Avery Sussex extended the Davis lead to as much as nine in the quarter, with the team holding a 19-11 lead after the first 10 minutes.
- In the second quarter, the Aggies continued the pace, with a Sussex three extending the lead to 16 halfway through the period.
- After subbing into the contest, Davis got her first collegiate points on an and 1 layup, converting the additional free throw to put her team up 31-12.
- Ending the period on a 7-4 run, the Warriors saw a 20-39 deficit heading into halftime.
- Coming out of the break, defense was the name of the game before back-to-back Norris threes broke open the offense for her team.
- The Aggie defense was particularly strong in the third, holding Jessup to only eight points. A pair of threes from Bennett gave her team a 29-point lead at the end of the period, 57-28.
- Strong three-point shooting continued into the fourth, with Norris, Sussex, and Ersdala getting long-range buckets.
- Holding Jessup to seven points in the final ten minutes, the Aggies cruised to a 72-35 win.
