DAVIS, Calif. — Following big wins over Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine last weekend, UC Davis volleyball's
Ximena Cordero Barr and
Mia Starr have been named Big West Players of the Week. Cordero Barr was announced as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, while Starr was named the Setter of the Week for the first time this season.
Against the Titans on Thursday, Cordero Barr bolstered the backline for UC Davis, tying a career-high 20 digs while also putting up eight assists in a three-set sweep.
On Saturday, she enjoyed a breakout performance over UC Irvine, setting a brand new career-best 35 digs while also enjoying four assists and a service ace in an Aggie four-set win over the Anteaters. Among Big West liberos, she ranks second with 4.44 digs per set.
In the Aggies' home opener on Thursday, Starr continued her great play this season with 38 assists, four digs, and two block assists to elevate her team past Fullerton. This performance marked the eighth time this season the junior has collected 35+ digs in a match.
She elevated even higher on Saturday, posting her fourth double-double this year in a 46-assist, 11-dig game against UC Irvine, just her third 40+ assist match this season. In The Big West, Starr ranks at the top of the leaderboard with 10.14 assists per set.
Both of these performances helped lead UC Davis to a 4-0 start in conference play for just the third time in program history. Among conference foes, the Aggies are just one of two clubs (Long Beach State) that remain undefeated.
