The short story: Double-digit kills from Ally Chandler and Jade Light led UC Davis volleyball to their tenth conference win of the season in a sweep of UC Riverside on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

FIRST SERVE

  • Chandler was also the face of the defense, knocking down a season-high nine total blocks.
  • Ximena Cordero Barr and Rachel Dunagan protected the backline, tying for a team-high 11 digs. Cordero Barr also posted four aces on the night.
  • Mia Starr set up the offense with 37 assists, the 14th time she's put up 35+ assists in a match this season.
  • The Aggie team defense was excellent once again tonight, holding the Highlanders to a hitting percentage of 0.034 and 0.077 in sets one and two, respectively.
WHAT HEAD COACH DAN CONNERS HAD TO SAY

"I thought we played good volleyball at times, and at other times we played a little off our normal balance. But they figured it out, came away with the win, and we gotta continue to figure out ways to win."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After seeing the road team take a slim 2-1 lead, the Aggie offense got to work early with the service of Haden Bones, rattling off an 8-1 run.
  • The red hot offense continued late into the set, with kills from Brooke Hibino and Allie Caldwell putting their team up by as much as 14.
  • UC Riverside looked to take advantage of errors, but a kill from Breeze Czapinski iced a 25-11 set one win for her team.
  • Set two was much closer for both teams, with the Highlanders responding to each Aggie point early.
  • After a 4-0 run gave the home team its first lead, Riverside responded with a 5-1 run to go up 14-12.
  • Up 23-21 late in the second, Davis looked to close things out. After another kill from Chandler put them on the precipice of victory, she combined with Light for a block to claim the second 25-21 and go up 2-0 in the match.
  • Two service aces from Cordero Barr highlighted the early Aggie offense in the third, leading her team to a 6-1 advantage.
  • After the Highlanders took a timeout, they responded with a 6-0 run of their own, retaking the lead.
  • As both teams exchanged points down the wire, UC Davis used a Caldwell kill to spark their offense once again, going on an 8-2 run to take a 20-15 advantage.
  • From there, the home team cruised their way to victory, with a service ace from Starr capping off a 25-18 victory and the second straight sweep of UC Riverside this season.
UP NEXT: UC Davis stays home on Thursday, Oct. 30, when they rematch against Hawai'i at 6:00 p.m. PT. It's Halloween in the University Credit Union Center, and there will be a costume contest for fans in attendance.
