The short story: UC Davis women's tennis kicked off the SJSU Hidden Duals with a strong showing on Friday, earning two out of three doubles victories to open the weekend's competition.

• Both Sophia Sappa and Penelope Wong fell in their singles matches against SJSU.
• The pair of Maya Youseff and Polina Marakhtanova won their doubles match.
• Mika Ikemori and Isabella Bringas won their doubles match.
• Kaia Wolfe and Vivian Gallaway fell to their double's opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• In the early afternoon session, Youseff and Marakhtanova opened strong, defeating their Santa Clara opponents 6-4.
• The pair of Ikemori and Bringas also took down their opponents in a 6-4 match.
• Wolfe and Bringas struggled in their match and fell to their Santa Clara opponents 6-3.
• Singles began in the mid afternoon with senior Wolfe deafeating her SJSU opponent in two straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
• Junior Sappa fought through a three-set match but ultimately fell 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
• Sophomore Wong battled through a tie breaker but unfortuntalety could not pull out the win and went down 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).
