DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis' Nami Banks has been named the Big West Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Banks earned the honor after a breakout showing in UC Davis' 3-2 win over UC Riverside Saturday night. The midfielder scored the first two goals of his collegiate career, finding the net in the 5th and 23rd minutes to help the Aggies build a 3-0 first-half lead.
Across two matches last week, Banks recorded six shots, including two on goal, and played the full 90 minutes in both contests. His two-goal performance against the Highlanders marked the best game of his young Aggie career.
It is the second straight week UC Davis has earned a Big West weekly honor, following Gavin House's selection as Defensive Player of the Week last week.
UC Davis improved to 2-7-5 overall and 2-2-2 in Big West play with the win. The Aggies now hit the road for two conference matchups, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 22 at UC Irvine, before traveling to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Oct. 25.
