The short story: UC Davis women's tennis put up a strong fight in their 5-2 loss to Santa Clara, with one doubles pair securing a victory and two singles players triumphing, but ultimately couldn't hold off the Broncos. 

COURTSIDE 

• Santa Clara took the early lead grabbing the doubles point and beating the Ags 2-1. 

• Aggies Claire Galerkin and Kaia Wolfe were the lone doubles winners for the Ags' fourth match in a row, beating their opponent out in an exciting game. 

• Sophomore Mika Ikemori beat her opponent out in three sets. 

• Freshman Penelope Wong took down her opponent in three sets. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Aggies opened up the morning with doubles where senior Claire Galerkin and junior Kaia Wolfe finished first taking out their Bronco opponents. They are still the only pair that is undefeated in doubles play. 

• Next to finish was the pair of Mika Ikemori and Isabella Bringas who were unable to fend off their Bronco opponents. 

• Last to finish in doubles was the pair of Solia Valentine and Polina Marakhtanova who fought hard through a tie-breaker but were unable to come out on top. 

• On to singles, Galerkin and Youssef both fell first to their Santa Clara opponents in two sets to put the Aggies down 3-0. 

• Next to fall was the graduate student Valentine who took her match to three sets but was unable to pull through with a win. 

• Aggie Ikemori was the first to get a win for the team taking her opponent to three sets as well as a tie-breaker. 

• Freshman Marakhtanova was the next Aggie to finish her match and despite a tiebreaking play, she was unable to come out with a win putting the Aggies down 5-1. 

• Last to finish was freshman Penelope Wong who took her opponent to three sets including two tiebreakers, and after a hard battle she was able to take down her Bronco opponent for a final point for the team.
