DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis women's lacrosse team fell to the Colorado Buffaloes, 17-7, on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Davis. The Aggies drop to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in Pac-12 league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aggies controlled the opening draw to gain the first possession of the game and immediately took advantage of the opportunity as Grace Gebhardt set up Rhea Cosand for a quick score.
UC Davis forced a turnover after Colorado won the ensuing draw and leveraged a fastbreak opportunity for their second goal of the game, with Cosand setting up Gebhardt.
The Buffaloes scored on a behind-the-back shot to get on the board, then added another quick goal to draw even, 2-2. Colorado continued to build momentum, adding two more goals before the end of the quarter.
Colorado outscored the Aggies 5-1 in the second quarter, with Gebhardt adding a goal for UC Davis.
Gebhardt finished off a hat trick, putting in a free position shot to begin the second half scoring. Once again, the Buffaloes had a response, scoring the next seven goals to build an imposing 17-4 lead midway through the fourth quarter.
The Aggies finished the game with three scores as Ella Brislin, Reese Loseke and Cosand each scored.
NOTABLE
With three goals on the day, Gebhardt now has 19 career hat tricks. She is just one away from tying Alex Agnew for the eighth most career hat tricks in program history.
Gebhardt's three goals improved her career total to 100. Gebhardt needs eight more goals to tie for tenth in the program record books.
