DAVIS, Calif. —
Ella Brislin tied a career high for goals in a game, putting in five goals to help lead UC Davis (8-3, 1-1 Pac-12) over Pac-12 foe San Diego State, 15-12, on a rainy Saturday afternoon at UC Davis Health Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Brislin and Rhea Cosand scored twice to give the Aggies a lead in the early going, but San Diego State, who entered today's game on an eight-game losing spell, were clearly motivated and finished the quarter ahead 4-3.
Brislin and Natalie Markman powered a UC Davis offensive surge in the second quarter, combining for four of the next five goals to build a two goals lead. That lead didn't last long, though, as the Aztec rattled off the next three goals to pull ahead once again, taking an 8-7 lead into the halftime break.
Markman found Brislin for her fifth goal of the game on the opening possession of the second half. Both teams settled into the back and forth affair, trading scores for the remainder of the period. Cosand, Markman and Reese Loseke each scored in the period to help the Aggies pull back even, 11-11 with a quarter to play.
After Cosand finished off a hat trick to begin the fourth, CJ Urbanic picked up a ground ball and ran the length of the field, depositing her first career goal to swing the momentum in UC Davis' favor.
Lily Manos scored her first goal of the season, and Loseke sealed the deal with a score to put the Aggies up, 15-12.
Ashley Laing made a number of significant stops, finishing the game with 13 saves. Laing has moved into second in the country in saves made, now at 113 for the season.
In addition to her five goals, Brislin controlled 11 draws, while the defensive tandem of Katie Jones and Sierra Lizerbram combined for six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
