ABOUT THE TRITONS
When UC San Diego travels to Davis, the Tritons will be embarking on their first road series of the season. The Tritons are coming off a series win over Cal State Fullerton with an emphatic game two win over the Titans which saw the Tritons slug a program record five home runs. Hitting 22 home runs as a team already this season, UC San Diego is led by the efforts of Matt Halbach who leads the team in hits, RBIs, doubles, and batting average while having three home runs. Leading the Tritons in home runs is Nick Costello who has five on the season.

The Tritons are also paced by an experience crop of arms who make it difficult to score on the Tritons once they make it to their bullpen. Spearheading that charge for UC San Diego is Izaak Martinez who may be the best reliever in the Big West. In nine appearances, Martinez has picked up five saves, and allowed only one earned run across 23 innings pitched. In those 23 innings, Martinez is third on the team in strikeouts and has the lowest opposing batting average against, limiting hitters to just a .097 batting average. Although not starting this weekend against the Aggies, the Tritons are also led by strong Friday performances from Ryan Forcucci who leads UC San Diego in strikeouts with 37.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite losing their first Big West series against nationally ranked UC Irvine, the Aggies showed resilience throughout the past weekend against the Anteaters and this was on full display in their comeback win on Sunday. Friday night, the Aggies fell in a closely contested pitcher's duel, losing to the Anteaters 1-0. On Saturday, the Aggies again fell to the Anteaters by a score of 6-1, with UC Irvine outhitting UC Davis 14-5. On Sunday, it was a completely different story, as the Aggies orchestrated a remarkable rally from a 9-1 ninth-inning deficit to clinch a 12-10 victory in the 11th inning over the No. 19 ranked UC Irvine Anteaters in the series finale.

RED-HOT RILEY
Riley Acosta has been a focal point all season for UC Davis, as the junior currently leads the Aggies in batting average, doubles, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and OPS. Acosta has been able to lead the Aggies in these categories, all while being one of the toughest hitters in Division I baseball to strike out. He ranks third in the country in the toughest to strike out category, only striking out twice in 49 at-bats on the season.

EXECUTION AT ITS FINEST
The Aggies have used a new offensive philosophy to supplement their run scoring. Ranking third in the country in sacrifice bunts, UC Davis has been using every available opportunity to put players in scoring position and put pressure on opposing defenses. With 25 sacrifice bunts already this season, Joey Wright leads all Aggies and ranks fourth in the country with six sacrifices. Five separate Aggies qualify to be ranked within the NCAA's minimum requirements for sacrifice bunts, a testament to the commitment from the entire team. A byproduct of the Aggies willingness to sacrifice bunt has resulted in hits on multiple occasions with the Aggies possessing more speed this year than in recent years.

TWO-WAY WOOLDRIDGE
One of the most competitive players on the team, Braydon Wooldridge has been doing it both on the mound, and at the plate. Delivering the game-tying double against UC Irvine on Sunday, Wooldridge eventually came in and closed the game out to secure the win. Through three pitching appearances, Wooldridge has a 1.59 ERA and has collected three hits in his past two games offensively.

STEADY CONTRIBUTORS
While Wooldridge and Acosta provided some game-changing at bats in the UC Irvine series and are among the hardest outs in the UC Davis lineup, the group of Jason Hanson, Mark Wolbert, Alex Gouveia and Nick Leehey have been steady all season in their contributions.

Wolbert and Gouveia currently sport the two longest hitting streaks on the team with Gouveia collecting hits in eight straight games, while Wolbert has gotten a hit in the past five.

Hanson is fresh off a 4-for-4 day at the plate last Sunday against UC Irvine and has been putting forth quality at-bats all season alongside Ethan Felix as the pair split time at first base.

Leehey has been a hit machine as well, tying Acosta for the most multi-hit games on the season with five. He most recently had a 3-for-6 game against UC Irvine with three runs scored.

DEFENDING DOBBINS
The Aggies in their short amount of games this season, have shown to rise to the occasion when it comes to defending Dobbins Stadium. In eight games this season, the Aggies are 6-2 at home, highlighted by their series wins over BYU and Seattle U.

EXPERIENCED LINEUP
UC Davis returns a very experienced group of players, with 29 returners on the roster. On any given day, UC Davis more likely than not, features at least seven returners who have started games in past seasons with the exceptions being Jason Hanson, Ethan Felix, and Tyler Howard also registering starts on regular occasions.

DRAFT NOTES
D1Baseball listed both Mark Wolbert and Joey Wright as potential prospects for UC Davis in the next few years. A promising prospect who entered last season tabbed as the top MLB Draft prospect in the Big West, Wolbert this preseason was slotted as the 16th ranked prospect in the Big West by D1Baseball for the 2024 MLB Draft class. D1Baseball also listed Wright as the seventh ranked Big West prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft class.

AGGIE PRESEASON PREDICTION
UC Davis was picked to finish ninth in the Big West Preseason Team Poll and will look to improve on their 17-37 record from a season ago.

UP NEXT
The Aggies will host Sacramento State for the second of three games this season against their Causeway rival. First pitch against the Hornets on Tuesday is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (PT).
