DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis wrapped up the Silicon Valley Showcase with a strong final third round of play, surging up two spots to finish tied for sixth.
DAY TWO
In an ultra-competitive field, the Aggies finished tied for sixth out of ten total teams.
The Aggies fired a collective 310 in today's third round with eight birdies as a unit over the final 18 holes.
Sophomore
Lauren Calderon continued to dominate the course, leading the Aggies with a team-low, 4-over par 75. She carded one birdie and rounded out a very consistent three rounds of golf, finishing in 12th place.
Skyler May also continued her upward trajectory from day one, carding a 5-over par 76, and impressively finishing tied for 23rd. After climbing 10 spots with a strong round two, May rose up another 11 spots to secure the top-25 finish.
Right next to her was another Aggie teammate as
Vani Karimanal finished tied for 23rd as well. This gives UC Davis another tournament with at least three players within the top-25 leaderboard.
Marina Mata carded an 11-over par 82 while
Abby Leighton finished with a 8-over par 79. They finished tied for 46th and tied for 51st respectively.
DAY ONE
Over two rounds of intense competition, the team's collective scorecard read 312 and 304, culminating in a total of 616. The Aggies strong second round allowed the Aggies to rise two spots among the team leaderboard and sets them up perfectly to make even more noise among the rankings in tomorrow's third and final round.
Lauren Calderon, leading the pack for UC Davis, displayed remarkable consistency with rounds of 74 each, tallying up to 148. Sitting at 6-over, her performance, steady and unwavering, earned her a tie for the 12th spot going into tomorrow's final round. She collected the third most birdies on the day, as she carded seven over the course of two rounds.
Not far behind,
Vani Karimanal, with her own set of identical scores, recorded 76 on both rounds, and finished with a commendable 152 for 10-over par. Her efforts placed her in a tie for the 19th position, with Karimanal and Calderon being the two lone Aggies within the top-25.
Skyler May, another notable player, overcame an up-and-down first round, and improved her score by four strokes in the second round finishing with a 76, to end the day with a total of 156 for 14-over par. Her ability to adjust and adapt throughout the day helped her jump up ten spots after round one as she finds herself tied for 34th place going into tomorrow.
Marina Mata, with rounds of 82 and 78, showed a trajectory of improvement over her second round, finishing with a score of 160 and tied for the 47th position. Mata rated out as the best Aggie on Par 3 holes today, averaging a score of even-par on Par 3s.
Abby Leighton, rounded out the team with a pair of 13-over rounds as she sits in the 56th position after day one.
