Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

UC Davis Triumphs Over Lindenwood in Thriller

DAVIS, Calif. – Coming in riding a two-game win streak, the UC Davis women's lacrosse team faced a tough test against undefeated Lindenwood. In a back-and-forth affair that came down to the game's final possession, the Aggies ultimately pulled out a nail-biting 13-12 victory in front of an ecstatic home crowd at the UC Davis Health Stadium. The result extends the Aggies' win streak to three, while also handing Lindenwood their first loss of the season.

Ella Brislin and Cami Johnson both paced the Aggies with hat tricks, while Alannah Scott had two early goals and three assists. Ashley Laing was brilliant in the goal, recording 12 saves, including the game-clinching stop with four seconds to go.

The Aggies (3-1) jumped out to a hot start, taking an early 5-1 lead before the Lions battled back with two straight goals of their own. In response Rhea Cosand led a beautiful break for the Aggies, whipping the ball up field to Scott, who dumped it off to Claire Moats for the goal. After some back and forth scoring the Davis defense got a crucial stop on a free position shot to end the half, taking a 7-4 lead into the break.

Lindenwood tied the game quickly out of the half before UC Davis stabilized. Laing helped push momentum back in the Aggies' favor with an incredible play, leaving the goal to make a steal on the run leading to a score for Moats that completely re-energizing the team and crowd. After a tough Lindenwood goal, Johnson hit a remarkable turnaround spin-move sling, which Natalie Markman followed up with a well-placed shot, giving UC Davis a three-goal lead heading into the fourth.

The Lions refused to go away, though, cutting the lead back down to one, before a great steal by Johnson put her in position to score again and push the Aggie advantage back to two. Lindenwood kept coming however, scoring with 24 seconds left to make it a one-goal game, and securing the ensuing draw control, which led to a free position shot with seven seconds left. With the crowd on the edge of their seats and the game in the balance, Laing held strong and made another incredible save to secure the win for UC Davis. In a game with many stellar scoring plays, the Davis defense shined brightest when it mattered most.

The Aggies are back at home Tuesday, Feb. 27 to take on St. Bonaventure at 5:00 p.m.
