Lincoln, NE. — UC Davis women's soccer fell on the road at No. 24 Nebraska Thursday night, dropping a 4-1 decision.
In the first-ever meeting between these two programs, the Aggies were paced by
Leslie Fregoso and her goal during the 19th minute.
Just the second time ever UC Davis women's soccer has faced a Big 10 opponent, UC Davis contended for all 90 minutes against one of the most prolific teams in the country.
Nebraska was led tonight by Eleanor Dale, the leading scorer in all of Division I, and Sarah Weber. The pair of Huskers each had a brace tonight.
The Aggies were in an early 2-0 hole start to the game after Weber and Dale scored a goal each within the first 17 minutes of action.
The 10th most efficient offense in the country for Nebraska put early pressure on the Aggie backline and set the tone early.
Even with this early scoring stretch, the Aggies wouldn't give in. Just two minutes later, Fregoso would bring the deficit within one, and provide the Aggies with some hope. Having not allowed a goal in their last two games, the Aggies threatened multiple times after the goal from Fregoso.
With 13 shots in the game and seven being on target, Husker keeper Samantha Hauk was challenged all night but secured six saves, while also evading a few shots that were just inches away from finding the back of the net.
Multiple chances in this latter part of the first half would not come to fruition as the Huskers would enter halftime unscathed, carrying a 2-1 lead into the final 45.
Seemingly entering the next period with momentum, John Walker's squad would respond immediately, scoring their third goal in the 46th minute.
It was also during this second half that weather would start to play a factor, with a huge rainstorm crashing over Barbara Hibner Field and stalling the offensive flow of both teams.
Unable to cut into the deficit anymore, the Huskers would go on and add further insurance with a Dale penalty to secure the 4-1 victory.
Caeley Goldstein finished the night with eight saves to her name.
