Aggies Dominate Eastern Washington, 3-0

Leslie Fregoso is now tied for the most goals by an Aggie during the Division I era

Davis, Calif. — Two Aggies found the back of the net in the final non-conference matchup of the season for UC Davis women's soccer, resulting in a 3-0 victory over Eastern Washington Thursday night. UC Davis posted its third shutout while improving to 4-4 on the season.

Leading the charge was the decorated Leslie Fregoso, scoring a grace. With her two goals tonight, she is now tied for the most goals by an Aggie during the Division I era. With 21 career goals, she is bound to break Rochelle VanBuskirk's 14-year-old record with conference play set to kick off next week.

Already the all-time leader in points, Fregoso is also just three assists away from breaking the all-time career assists record during the Division I era as well.

Fregoso had the magic going early for the Aggies, scoring in just the fourth minute of action. Capturing the early lead, UC Davis continued to apply relentless pressure on Eastern Washington's goalkeeper Kiara Watson. To her credit, Watson picked up three big saves over the rest of the first half after allowing the quick goal.

With the visiting Eagles needing to regroup, Eastern Washington tried to enforce their counter-attack during the latter half of the first 45 minutes, putting up two shots on goal, one in the 25th minute, and the other in the 34th, both of which were saved by Aggie goalkeeper Caeley Goldstein. She would finish the night with three saves.

The rest of the period would play out before ending with UC Davis carrying a 1-0 lead into the half.

The second half would see the Aggies raise their energy level to new heights, completely dominating possession, and control on the offensive side of things.

Only allowing Eastern Washington to register one shot during the final 45 minutes, UC Davis pushed the pedal and came away with a whopping 13 shots themselves.

In the 62nd minute, one of these shots would give UC Davis a 2-0 lead, with Lindsey Porter blasting one past the keeper with her left foot. Displaying pure creativity, she doubled the Aggie advantage and gave Tracy Hamm's squad a commanding lead.

The Aggies continued for seven minutes before putting the Eagles away for good with Leslie Fregoso successfully converting a penalty kick to get her second goal of the night, and raise the Aggie lead to 3-0.

UP NEXT
A great way to cap off the non-conference portion of the schedule, the Aggies will look to continue their winning ways on Thursday, September 21 as the Aggies travel to CSUN for the first Big West matchup of the season.
