Hoard's Late Goal Rescues 1-1 Draw at No. 24 LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Ethan Hoard's 75th minute header secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against No. 24 LMU on Wednesday night in Southern California.

The Lions netted the opening goal at the half hour mark, but the Aggies did well to claw themselves back into the game, eventually scoring the equalizer with 15 minutes left to play. This was Hoard's first goal of the season as the striker opens his 2023 account.

Nationally ranked LMU held the advantage in the shots column 13-8 however it was UC Davis who won more set pieces (7-6) which played a huge part in the team's leveling goal.

It was a cagey half hour to start the contest, with neither team able to create enough space in the attacking third to muster anything beyond a half chance. In the 30th minute, LMU converted on the first attempt of the game when Ryan Kingsford whipped in a cross to Gael Quintero who tapped in from six yards out to give the Lions the early lead.

The hosts would carry this 1-0 advantage into the locker room after the two teams would combine for just five shots in the first 45 minutes.

UC Davis struggled to find a foothold in the game during the second half as LMU played on the front foot for the next 30 minutes of play.

Slightly against the run of play, the Aggies finally found the equalizer in the 75th minute. Freshman Ian Ngonethong did well to win a free kick on the right wing and Hayden Carlson delivered a beautiful cross to the head of Hoard, who flicked his header into the back of the net to level the game at 1-1.

UC Davis won multiple set pieces in the dying minutes, but the chances would go begging and the teams would share the spoils after 90 minutes.
