DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis created plenty of scoring chances on Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field but just couldn't find the back of the net as Pacific nicked the 1-0 win, handing the Aggies their second straight home defeat.
Pacific's lone shot on target proved to be the winner in a game where UC Davis dominated the run of play, totaling 18 shots to the Tigers' eight. Brian Lanier delivered an outstanding performance between the posts for the visitors, making seven crucial stops to hold the Aggies scoreless.
The Tigers were bright to start the contest and eventually found their goal when Emmanuel Obeifuna nodded home a delightful cross from Myles Hall in the 17
th minute.
The home side responded well after conceding the early goal, holding most of the possession and creating majority of the chances for the remainder of the game.
Ethan Hoard almost immediately found the leveler when the big striker showed quick feet to shift the ball onto his left foot after beating a defender, but his left-footed attempt was expertly saved by Lanier's outstretched leg.
After a fairly tame close to the first half, the Aggies would make some changes and played a very direct attacking style for the last 45 minutes.
Hayden Carlson checked in to start the second half and nearly picked up an assist shortly after coming on when he whipped in a beautiful free kick that found the head of
Keegan Walwyn-Bent, but the winger's attempt floated just wide of the target.
Zack Lillington was extremely unlucky not to score on the afternoon as he struck the crossbar 55
th minute. A few minutes later, the midfielder attempted a half volley from just outside the penalty area but Lanier once again palmed away the chance.
UC Davis searched frantically for the equalizer but the remaining chances would go begging and the Tigers would escape with the 1-0 win.
