Aggies Round Out Windon Memorial at Four-Under-Par

Northfield, IL — UC Davis rounded out the Windon Memorial carding 289 as a team. Ending with a 12th place finish, the Aggies finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament at four-under-par, good for an 848-stroke total.

DAY TWO
Purdue came out on top in the 15-field tournament at 38-under-par as Herman Sekne led the Boilermakers, breaking Thomas Hutchinson's 54-hole tournament low of 205 which he set in 2018.

Mark Stephens led the Aggies to finish his Windon Memorial with a three-over-par, 74. The senior standout placed tied for 34th among the field.

Leo Metzger reeled in his best performance of the week with a one-under-par, 70. His four birdies today allowed him to climb up 13 spots on the leaderboard. Lucas Carper turned in the second best Aggie performance today with an even-par, 71 to card a 54-hole 214.

Jacob Westberg finished tied for 63rd after a 216, 54-hole showing, highlighted by his round-one score of 70. Alejandro Nava carded a 74 today and finished tied for 69th among the leaderboard.

A very competitive field all-around, the Aggies despite finishing 12th, were four-under-par as a team and showed great consistency throughout the tournament.

The Aggies will be back in action on October 9, as they partake in the Alister Mackenzie Invitational hosted by Cal.

DAY ONE
Mark Stephens started with a solid round, carding a 70 during the first round of play. The lone Aggie placed inside the top-20 of the field, he stepped up his game in the second round even more, firing an impressive 67 strokes, continuing his remarkable play of 2023. Stephens' consistency and two-round total of 137 strokes have him at five-under-par. His day was fueled by his ability to convert birdie opportunities, currently with eight in the tournament.

Jacob Westberg has been the definition of consistency in Northfield. After echoing Stephens' score of 70 in the opening round, Westberg backed it up with a 71 during the second set of 18 holes. Westberg has also had a knack for seizing his birdie opportunities, currently sitting with seven through the first two rounds of play.

Lucas Carper was the third Aggie to start the first set of 18 holes by carding a 70. After his one-under-par round one, Carper would find himself at two-over-par during the second round after carding a 73. Full of pars on the scorecard, the 12-14 holes today for Carper were his scoring holes, recording four of his six birdies on these holes alone. Carper is currently tied for 58th.

Alejandro Nava started the day off with a 75 in the first round of play but bounced back in a big way by carding a 68 during his second go at it. Nava's greatness was on full display during the back nine of his second round, when he carded two birdies, and an eagle on hole 13, a 518 yard par 5. Like Carper, Nava's bounce back has him sitting tied for 58th.

Another steady Aggie in the fold was freshman phenom Leo Metzger. With his past tournament performances being fueled by spectacular birdies, eagle efforts, and a hole-in-one on a par 4, Metzger today used consistency during two rounds of play. Carding an even-par, 71 during round one, Metzger followed up with a one-over-par 72 in round two.
