San Francisco, Calif. — UC Davis men's golf closed out the USF-Howard Intercollegiate with a top-three finish, capturing bronze at TPC Harding Park. Fueled by 22 birdies and two eagles, the Aggies carded the second-best team round today at 10-under-par.
ROUND THREE
Jumping up three spots during the final round, it was
Mark Stephens who turned in one of the best rounds of his career, firing a six-under-par 66. His six-birdie performance was highlighted by an eagle on the 525-yard par five, giving him two birdies during the 54 holes of action. Stephens would finish the tournament tied for 10th place.
Joining him was fellow Aggie,
Lucas Carper, also tied for 10th place in the field. After scores of 67 and 71 during the first two rounds, Carper carded an even-par 72 to close out his impressive USF-Howard Intercollegiate appearance.
Another member of the Eagle Club today was
Alejandro Nava. In addition to his eagle on the 562-yard par 5, Nava added four birdies, resulting in a two-under-par 70.
Also scoring in the 70s was freshman
Leo Metzger. Dealing with his first-ever collegiate experience of 36 holes in one day, Metzger showed no signs of fatigue during the final round, and in fact, carded his best score of the week with five birdies in today's final set of 18.
Jacob Westberg closed out the very consistent Aggie lineup with a two-over-par 74.
ROUND TWO
With 36 holes on deck, there was no time to spare in between rounds. After pacing the Aggies at five-under-par during the first 18 holes,
Lucas Carper yet again was the lead man for UC Davis. His electric start in the Bay has him tied for fourth among the field.
An all around consistent day from
Mark Stephens was capped off by an eagle on hole 10 during his second round of play. Putting together two even-par rounds, Stephens has arguably been the most consistent Aggie during the fall season. Starting on hole 12 with four early bogeys during round two, Stephens dialed it in when he got back to the front nine, collecting four birdies and his aforementioned eagle to close out the day.
Alejandro Nava and
Jacob Westberg both turned in one-over-par rounds while
Leo Metzger closed out the lineup at three-over-par.
Treed Huang improved upon his round one score, and carded a 72, good for even-par.
ROUND ONE
Lucas Carper led the Aggies during the first round of play at TPC Harding Park, firing an astonishing five-under-par, 67. Firing on all cylinders, Carper carded six birdies and was nearly mistake free, only recording one bogey.
Alejandro Nava followed right behind Carper with a two-under-par, 70. After a career weekend at the Gene Miranda Invitational, Nava continued to carry that momentum into San Francisco, also tallying six birdies like Carper.
Rounding out the trio of Aggie's with under-par scores during round one was
Leo Metzger at one-under-par. After two early bogeys, the freshman bounced back and dominated the middle portion of the course, recording four birdies from hole seven, through fourteen.
Finishing up the lineup for UC Davis was
Mark Stephens (E),
Jacob Westberg (+3), and
Treed Huang (+3) as an individual.
