Air Force Academy, CO. — The UC Davis men's golf team continued to excel at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on day two, as the Aggies are currently in third place entering tomorrow's final round.
The freshman duo of Treed Huang and Leo Metzger dazzled on day two yet again, with both Aggies at three-under-par. Huang and Metzger are tied for seventh place on the individual leaderboard.
The Aggies have leaped up the leaderboards by taking care of business on par 5's. Currently, -12 combined as a team on these holes, UC Davis is four strokes better than the next closest team in the field.
They also have been cashing in birdies at a high clip, ranking second in total birdies with 33 as a team.
Metzger was the focal point of these stroke-shaving holes, recording five birdies, along with the lone Aggie eagle on the 587-yard par 5. Metzger finished with a 68 during round two.
The veteran trio of Mark Stephens, Lucas Carper, and Jacob Westberg all recorded rounds of 71 today and have been leading the charge for the tremendous play so far. While excelling in creating birdie opportunities, UC Davis has also been able to mitigate any blow-up holes, with this trio being a big part of Aggie's 114 pars so far. This ranks fourth among all of the 24 teams in the field.
Success followed UC Davis to the individual side of things as well with Alejandro Nava clocking in tied for fourth place.
At six-under-par, Nava posted the lowest scoring round among all competitors on the Silver Course at Eisenhower Golf Course.
His round of 64 is a career-best and is five strokes better than his previous of 69 which he has achieved multiple times.
Logan Green the final Aggie competing joined Nava on the individual side of things and carded a 77 today which moves him to 16th on the leaderboard.
Round two was one of the best total performances from an Aggie team in recent memory and they will look to bring that same energy into tomorrow's third and final round. Live scoring can be found on Golf Stat.
