DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis women's lacrosse will embark on a thrilling 10-day trip to New Zealand, where the Aggies will see the sights of Oceania while preparing for their upcoming season with two matches down under.
UC Davis will arrive in Auckland on Aug. 24 and explore one of the country's most eclectic cities before its first game against the Auckland Representative under-20's.
After some much-needed rest from the long flight and quick game to start the trip, the Aggies will unwind with some sea kayaking the following morning. In the afternoon, the squad will ascend the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere, the Auckland SkyTower, standing more than 300 meters tall. The second contest of the trip will commence that evening, with a 7 p.m. start time for the Auckland Lacrosse Open. A post-game social will take place following the competition as the two teams will get the chance to meet each other and enjoy the night.
The fun continues on Aug. 26 when UC Davis travels to Waitomo for a three-hour black water cave tubing excursion through the famed Waitomo glow worm caves. The team will then explore Te Kuiti, a town on the north island, and grab some lunch before making way to Rotorua, a city renowned for its geothermal activity.
That evening, the Aggies will enjoy a Maori performance and Hangi feast, immersing themselves in the local culture.
The sixth day of the trip will consist of a guided tour of Rotorua, including Ohinemutu Maori Village. A skyline gondola and three luge rides will be enjoyed by the team before some lunch and an afternoon workout session.
On day seven, the Aggies will take guided tour of Te Puia - the geothermal wonderland and cultural center - with kiwi house, Pohutu geyser, flax weaving, and wood carving demonstrations.
One of the marquee moments of the trip will take place on Aug. 29 when the squad will take the Bay Explorer Boat Cruise. Later that afternoon, the Aggies will experience the Maunganui Thermal Hot Pools, enjoying a soak in the world's only hot ocean water complex in the world.
UC Davis will give back to the community on the final day of the trip as a thank you for its incredible experience in New Zealand, meeting up with Tauranga Girls College for a lacrosse exhibition.
