LA QUINTA, CALIF.– The UC Davis men's golf team sits at seventh after the Big West Championship's first-round on Sunday. Two Aggies made top-15 finishes, as UC Davis posted an 8-over 296 to start the tournament.
Alejandro Nava paced for the Ags in the first round of the Big West Championships, as he finished the day tied for 11
th. The junior had a strong showing on day one. As he fired four birdies, three of which came in a sequence at the fourth, fifth, and sixth holes. The fifth and the sixth holes being two of the longest on the course, clocking in at over 500-yards each and a par-5. In the first round, the junior ended with an even 72 stroke play.
Not far behind is junior
Jacob Westberg who tied for 14
th. Westberg had a good start to the tournament, as he carded four birdies as well. Two of which were on the par-5, fifth and sixth holes. The junior finished with a first-round score of 1-over 73.
Next up,
Lucas Carper who is tied for 27
th. The junior fired for four-birdies as well, also hitting on the fifth and sixth holes. Caper had a tough back-nine, but was able to card his last birdie to finish with a first-round score of 3-over 75.
Darren Chiu ended the first round of action tied for 32
nd, with a first-round score of 4-over 76. The freshman carded a pair of birdies, and stroked even on 11 holes.
Junior
Mark Stephens rounds out the Ags, as he's tied for 36
th. Stephens fired for three birdies, but ultimately finished with a first-round score of 5-over 77.
The Aggies return to the course for the second-round of the Big West Championship tomorrow, with an 11:40 a.m Tee-Time.
