Davis, Calif. — The UC Davis men's basketball program is excited to announce the signing of Pablo Tamba, a 6-foot-7 guard from Málaga, Spain.
Pablo Tamba will transfer to UC Davis after spending his freshman season at Idaho State, before making his way to Indian River State College as a sophomore. Tamba will join the Aggies program as a junior in 2023-24.
"Pablo was a priority recruit for us," said Head Coach Jim Les. "His athleticism, versatility, skill, and how hard he plays make him a perfect fit for our style of play. We can't wait for Pablo to get to Davis."
Last season as an All-Conference player at Indian River State College, Pablo averaged 11.9 points, and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 56.5% from the field and 45.1% from 3-point distance. With these numbers, Pablo was able to lead Indian River State College to a 24-7 mark, while going 10-2 in league play. Excelling at Indian River State College, Tamba was also a member of the All-Academic Team in his lone year at Idaho State.
Hailing from Málaga, Spain, Tamba enters Davis with an international track record. Competing for the Spain U20 National team in the European Challengers during 2021-22, Tamba was able to average 8.0 points, and 2.8 rebounds per game. Tamba will also be carrying the momentum from his last season at Indian River State College as he is expected to join the Spain National Team again, this time for the U20 Championships this upcoming summer.
Making a huge mark on the Indian River State program, his coach Bill Morosco had high remarks for Pablo. "We are very excited for Pablo. His skill, athleticism, and versatility should help him have an immediate impact in Coach Les' style of play. Most importantly, Pablo's heart, mind, and character make him a perfect fit for the UC Davis community both on, and off the court."
Tamba is the first signed recruit for the 2023-24 class and figures to be a key component on a squad that has desires to compete for the Big West title.
