LA QUINTA – The UC Davis men's golf team opened The Prestige with a first-round score of two-over-286 to sit in eighth place out of 24 teams at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West on Monday. The Aggies sport three golfers in the top-30 in a stacked field after the first 18 holes.
Junior
Alejandro Nava led the way for the Ags in the first round, with a score of 1-under-70. The Monterrey, Mexico native birdied three holes and carded a 1-under-34 on the front nine.
U.S. Amateur qualifiers
Jacob Westberg and
Mark Stephens are tied for 27th after capping off the initial round with an even-71. Stephens recorded six birdies on the par-71 course, while Westberg birdied holes nine, 12, and 14.
Junior
Lucas Carper is tied for 58th at 3-over-74, and
Darren Chiu is tied for 96th at 7-over-78.
In the individual tournament,
Daniel Kim is tied for 29th with a 3-over-75 at the Golf Club at Terra Lago in Indio.
