Huang Becomes Just the Third Aggie Freshman to Secure Individual Victory

Aggies Take Seventh Place at Alister MacKenzie Invitational

Fairfax, Calif. — UC Davis freshman golfer Treed Huang made history at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, becoming the third ever freshman in school history to take the top spot on the leaderboard after he tied for first place with New Mexico's Bastien Amat at 16-under-par.

Huang, who hails from Katy, Texas, showed remarkable skill and composure throughout the two-day tournament, carding two rounds of 66, yesterday, he turned in a 65 today, which places him among the top-10 for lowest single round scores among Aggies all-time. He recorded a tournament high 21 birdies in his impressive performance.

Huang's stellar play helped UC Davis finish tied for seventh place among the field of 14 in the Aggies final tournament of the fall season.

DAY TWO
Also delivering for UC Davis, today was Leo Metzger and Jacob Westberg. The senior from Sacramento, Westberg improved his score every round, ultimately carding a 70 today to finish tied for 58th place.

A competitive field at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Leo Metzger experienced a true challenge to climb up the leaderboards. With three straight rounds at even, or under par, the strength of the field was noticeable in Metzger's finish outside of the top-25. Playing excellent golf with 16 birdies, Metzger ranked ninth in this department and even added an eagle effort to his week of play.

Lucas Carper echoes his round one performance today, carding a 72, securing one birdie on the 506 yard par 5. Consistency was king with Carper, as he poured in eight birdies over the course of three rounds.

Logan Green delivered a two-over-par 73 to end his first tournament apart of the lineup. After two early bogeys, Green settled in and would finish the day with three birdies, two of which came on the back-nine.

With the fall season at a close, the Aggies will now use the time in-between to prepare for the new year of tournaments which start in February, as UC Davis travels to Hawai'i to compete in the three-day Amer Ari Invitational starting February 8th.

DAY ONE
UC Davis finished in a tie for sixth place with a total score of 552 (-16) after two rounds of play.

The Aggies were led by freshman Treed Huang, who shot back-to-back rounds of 66 (-5) to share the fourth spot on the individual leaderboard at 132 (-10). Huang had 14 birdies and only four bogeys in his impressive performance. A career day for Huang has given himself a great opportunity to become just the third Aggie freshmen ever to capture an individual victory.

Leo Metzger also had a brilliant showing, carding two rounds of 69 (-2) to tie for 24th place at 138 (-4). Metzger had 11 birdies and one eagle over the two rounds. The highlight of Metzger's day was his run during his first round which consisted of three straight birdies, before capping it off with an eagle to give him four straight under-par holes.

Lucas Carper improved his score by five strokes from the first round to the second, shooting 72 (+1) and 67 (-4) to tie for 27th place at 139 (-3). Carper had seven birdies on the day, with four of them occurring during his second round of play.

Logan Green and Jacob Westberg rounded out the UC Davis lineup, tying for 64th and 69th place respectively. In his first tournament action this season as part of the lineup, Green shot rounds of 72 (+1) and 73 (+2) to finish at 145 (+3), while Westberg shot rounds of 75 (+4) and 71 (E) to finish at 146 (+4). Green finished today with six birdies, while Westberg had seven.

As a team, the Aggies have been gaining ground in the leader boards through their play on par 4s. UC Davis was the second-best team on the par 4s, averaging 3.89 (-0.11) per hole and scoring -12 overall.  With an average score for all the teams on the par 4s sitting at 3.98 (+0.02), this means that UC Davis was 0.09 strokes better than the average on each par 4 hole.

After climbing up five spots in the leader board with a strong round two, UC Davis will look to keep the momentum going tomorrow during the final round of play as they set their sights on a top-five finish.
