Davis, Calif. — UC Davis wrapped up their two-game road stand with an 8-2 loss to the Vermont Catamounts Sunday morning.
Despite the loss,
Shannon Lackey proved to be a threat to the Catamounts' defense scoring both goals for her team, giving UC Davis a fighting chance in the middle portions of the game.
UVM's Lilly Leiprecht opened the scoring at 3:49, assisted by Sophia Drees. This was followed by goals from Sophia Lefranc and Alina Gerke, both assisted by Lotte Kanters, taking the score to 3-0 in favor of UVM.
UC Davis made a comeback at 19:45 with a goal from
Shannon Lackey, which was made possible by an assist from
Jordan Anaya.
However, UVM continued their scoring spree with Haley Buffenbarger successfully converting a penalty stroke and Sophia Drees scoring twice, assisted by Haley Buffenbarger, Maddie Moran, and Meg Weyer.
Even after trailing 6-1, UC Davis showed their resilience with another goal from
Shannon Lackey at 40:48, this time assisted by
Caroline Stutte, to bring the deficit to 6-2.
The two goals marked a significant milestone for Lackey. Her first goal in the 19th minute was her first on the season, while her second goal of the game, brought her total to two for the season. Impressively, this matched her total from last year, highlighting the graduate student's all-around consistency and presence on the field today.
Despite this effort, UVM maintained their lead with Alina Gerke scoring her second goal of the match and Sophia Lefranc rounding off the scoring for UVM.
