Box Score Davis, Calif. — UC Davis field hockey lost Saturday afternoon's America East match to the California Golden Bears, 4-1.
Prior to the game, the Aggies celebrated their four outstanding seniors: Zoe Mohrman, Shannon Lackey, Lizzy Tedrow and Brenna Brophy. The seniors were recognized before the game for their contributions to the program and received flowers and gifts from their teammates and coaches.
With Senior Day taking place at Aggie Field Hockey Facility for the team's final home game of 2023, UC Davis entered the contest against a very formidable Cal team with some added motivation.
The game started off with a frantic pace, as both teams competed for possession and territory within the midfield. The Bears got the early advantage with a series of runs in their favor and were able to score an early goal in the third minute, when Bente Baekers fired a shot from the top of the circle to record her 11th goal of the season.
The Aggies did not let that early deficit affect them, as they continued to press and create chances of their own.
The second half saw the Aggies come out with more determination and energy, as they looked for a comeback. After allowing a goal in the 48th minute, UC Davis finally got their reward in the 50th minute, when Zoe Mohrman scored her second goal of the season with an absolute firecracker of a shot from a penalty corner insertion by Shannon Lackey. Mohrman, who serves as the stonewall defender in Austin Pile's backline, has been a go-to-target on many of the Aggie penalty corners throughout the season due to her booming shot ability.
With the game sitting at 2-1 and momentum seemingly shifting as cowbell ringing fans flooded the Aggie Field Hockey Facility, Cal would not let the Aggies soak in the moment as just seconds later, Morgan Kallmann would provide the Golden Bears with some insurance. Registering her first career goal with her first score, Kallmann would finish the day netting a brace, scoring the Bears' fourth and final goal in the 54th minute to give Cal the 4-1 win.
The loss dropped UC Davis to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in America East play.
