Albany, NY — The Aggies battled hard throughout the game with the Great Danes of UAlbany but fell Friday 6-2 at Alumni Turf in New York.
The Great Danes got off to a quick start, digging the Aggies an early 1-0 deficit after a UAlbany score within the first two minutes of play.
UC Davis would do their best to regroup in the first half, doing a much better job controlling possession within the midfield and limiting the UAlbany attack to just one goal in the first 30 minutes.
The Great Danes were able to enforce the pace early with seven shot attempts in the first period as the Aggies had difficulties breaking through UAlbany's stout lineup which includes eight-time defensive player of the week Alison Smisdom. UC Davis as a result did not record a shot during the first 15 minutes.
That would completely change during the second period, as UC Davis was right on pace in shot attempts with the Great Danes, and ultimately broke through with an equalizing goal in the 24th minute. The Aggies responded with a goal of their own off a perfectly executed corner which saw Brenna Brophy record her first career goal. The senior defender inserted a perfectly placed ball before sneaking a goal into the near post.
In essence, creating an entirely new game entering the second half with the score tied at 1-1, the run of momentum wouldn't be enough as the Great Danes came out storming during the second half.
UAlbany would end up recording five unanswered goals to assert their presence and prove why they are one of the three unbeaten teams in the America East.
After a scoreless third period for UC Davis, the Aggies were able to generate one final goal during the run of play with
Skylar Richards tipping in her first goal of the season with
Ella Franken recording the assist.
With the loss, UC Davis drops to 2-9 overall and 1-3 in America East play.
