DAVIS, Calif. – On the first offensive drive of the game for the Aggies,
Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr. rushed his way into the record books while UC Davis (1-2) ran away with their first victory of the season, 43-13, Saturday in front of a record crowd of 14,394 that included 10,883 students.
The Aggies scored on their first five drives of the game to down the University of San Diego (1-2) at UC Davis Health Stadium.
Gilliam, Jr. broke a 24-year-old record, surpassing the longtime mark of G.P. Muhammad's 3,589 career rushing yards. The Merced native rushed for 106 yards on 14 carries on the night to move his career total to 3,689. Gilliam, Jr. also added three catches for 47 yards and moved into a tie for first in the record book with his 40
th career touchdown.
Five different Aggies scored in the home opener, including career-firsts from
Matteo Perez and
Josh Gale. Perez found paydirt on a 15-yard shovel pass in the second quarter and then Gale broke away on a 62-yard strike to finish the scoring for the Ags.
Trent Tompkins scored on two direct snaps and posted 114 total yards. The versatile threat scored on a 10-yard run on the game's second drive and then punched in a seven-yard run late in the first half.
Justin Kraft, who has battled injury for most of his Aggie career, opened the scoring for UC Davis on a 16-yard reception.
Quarterback
Miles Hastings completed 10-straight passes to start the game and tossed three touchdowns for the second straight game, finishing with 270 yards on 16-of-21 passing.
On the defensive side,
Porter Connors recorded his first career interception and added five tackles.
Devon King paced the Ags with 10 total tackles while
Evan Tattersall blocked a punt, broke up a pass and registered five tackles.

Trent Tompkins scored two first half touchdowns taking a direct snap under center. The pair of touchdowns were his first of the season and moved his career rushing touchdown total to 12.
- Gilliam, Jr. scored on a nine-yard rush in the second quarter to move his career total touchdowns to 40. The 40 total touchdowns ties Matt Brown and Preston Jackson for the most in a career by a non-quarterback in program history.

Miles Hastings was a perfect 9-for-9 passing in the first half with 173 yards and two touchdowns. He completed his first pass in the second half before throwing his first incompletion of the game.

Lan Larison caught two passes for 66 yards, including a 50-yard reception. Larison has now hauled in two passes this season of 50 yards and over.
- The 153 total yards from Gilliam, Jr. was his third straight of the season over 100 total yards and fourth in a row overall.
