Aggies Drop Big Sky Opener to Weber State, 17-12

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis football team (1-3, 0-1) dropped its Big Sky opener, 17-12, to No. 12-ranked Weber State (4-0, 1-0) at UC Davis Health Stadium Saturday night.

Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr. totaled 111 yards to lead the Aggies ground attack, picking up 6.5 yards per carry along the way. Gilliam also tacked on 35 receiving yards. Lan Larison added 31 yards on the ground, as well as 38 receiving yards.

Miles Hastings threw for 256 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown on 39-of-57 passing.

Hastings' most prolific target in the ballgame was C.J. Hutton, who caught 10 passes for 77 yards and one score. Chaz Davis got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in seven balls for 58 yards.

Chris Venable helped pace a stingy Aggie defense, collecting three tackles and one interception. Devon King added five tackles, 1.0 TFL, one forced fumble, and one recovered fumble and Cole Hansen had three tackles and recovered a key fumble late in the contest.

UC Davis forced three turnovers and out-gained the Wildcats, 417-356.

How It Happened

UC Davis scored first and jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 13:27 left in the first quarter.Weber State then scored to take a 14-3 lead before the Aggies put a field goal on the board to close the gap and make it a 14-6 game.

After Weber State scored to increase its lead to 17-6, UC Davis responded with a touchdown with 5:33 remaining in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 17-12. The Ags had the ball in the redzone with under a minute to play, but were unable to get the go-ahead score.
