ABOUT THE SPARTANS
San Jose State is 1-3-1 entering the week with three shared opponents with the Aggies...The Spartans tied San Francisco 1-1 on Sept. 1, fell 4-0 to No. 3 Stanford on Sept. 4, and 4-0 to Saint Mary's on Sept. 8...They're coming off a 10-win season in 2021, going 10-7-3 and advancing to the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament...San Jose State is led by Simon Tobin, who is 54-78-20 in nine seasons in San Jose but 305-267-74 over a 36 season career...UC Davis is 4-5-1 against San Jose State all-time with the last meeting being a 5-2 win by the Spartans in 2021 in San Jose.

UC DAVIS ENDURE TOUGH WEEK
Extreme heat and physical games continued to define the Aggies' season last week.

Thursday's double-header with the Aggie women's team was rescheduled to 11:30 and wound up kicking at 11:45 in near-100 degree heat. In a game neither team was able to generate much offense in with shot on goal each, the Aggies drew 0-0 with San Diego. Sunday's matchup with LMU (RV) featured cooler temperatures but a similarly frustrating result with the Aggies falling 1-0 on an own goal. UC Davis out-shot LMU 11-8 in the game.

The loss dropped UC Davis to 0-4-1 on the season with one game remaining on this three-game home stand.

GOODMAN PUTTING IN THE TIME
Freshman Luke Goodman currently leads the Aggies in minutes played through five games at 372...The last time a freshman led UC Davis in minutes in a season was Brian Ford in 2011...Ford started all 19 games and played 1,814 minutes that season...Goodman is also the only true freshman on the 2022 squad to start four games this season.

VETERAN LEADERSHIP
Senior Andy Velasquez, the Big West Coaches Preseason Team pick, is the only Aggie to start all five games this season...In his fourth season, Velasquez has started 44 of 45 games over the last three seasons and has appeared in 62 overall.
