QUICK HITTERS
• HOMECOMING
Tuesday marks a homecoming for UC Davis Head Coach Tommy Nicholson as he'll return to Sunken Diamond for the first time since taking the reins at UC Davis in December. Nicholson spent four seasons as an assistant at Stanford.
• COLD SNAP
After going on an offensive tear in the first half of April, Aggie bats were held in check in the second half. The Aggies have scored 7 runs over their last four games.
• BIG WEST CONFERENCE RANKS
18 games into the conference schedule, UC Davis rank 4th in average, 5th in hits, 3rd in doubles, and 3rd in triples.
SHOHEI WHO?
•
Nathan Peng has done his best impression of the Angels' two-way star over the last four games for UC Davis.
• On consecutive days during UC Davis' three-game series against Hawai'i, Peng opened as the starter on the mound, started at DH, and started at catcher.
• In the Aggies' April 26 game against San Jose State, Peng started at DH and later pitched the ninth inning.
• Over those four games, Peng went 7-11 with two runs, two RBI, two doubles and one homerun. On the mound he's pitched three innings, allowing one unearned run with no hits, no walks, and two strikeouts.
AGGIES LOOK TO REPEAT HISTORY
• Though the Aggies and the Cardinal have not faced off in two years, their last meeting was one for the record books for UC Davis.
• On April 16, 2019 UC Davis upset a then-No. 2 Stanford team 8-6 at Sunken Diamond.
•
Alejandro Lara hit a three-run seventh inning homerun and Garrett Kelly added an eighth inning solo shot.
• Prior to that game, UC Davis had not defeated Stanford since 2013.
FRESHMAN PHENOM
• Despite having his 13-game hitting streak snapped the last time out, freshman
Mark Wolbert has nonetheless put his stamp on the lineup in his debut season.
• During that 13-game hit streak that began on April 1 at UC Riverside, he had 15 runs and 10 RBI.
• He had nine extra base hits in April, including home runs on back-to-back days on April 8 and 9.
• Having settled into the leadoff spot in the order, Wolbert batted .417 in the month of April with a .667 slugging percentage.
• His 13-game hitting streak sits behind only
Tanner Murray's 14-gamer in 2019 and Ryan Anderson's 19-game streak in 2017.
LINE-UP STALWARTS
• Head Coach
Tommy Nicholson has settled into a fairly regular starting alignment across the diamond and batting order but only two Aggies have started all 27
games this season.
• Freshman
Nick Leehey has started every game at shortstop and
Jonah Henrickson has started 26 at first base and one as the designated hitter.
• Senior
Kyler Arenado has started 25 games but appeared in 26 counting his appearances as a relief pitcher.
• Freshman
Mark Wolbert has also appeared in all 27.
