Davis, Calif. - UC Davis swept the Big West weekly awards slate with
Ryan Dieter earning offensive player of the week,
Charles Janssen defensive player of the week, and
Luke Goodman defensive player of the week, the conference announced on Monday.
All three awards are the first weekly honors of their careers, while Goodman joins his twin brother,
Cason Goodman, and
Marcus Garcia as the third Aggie to win freshman of the week.
Janssen, Dieter, and Goodman each played significant roles in the Aggies going 2-0 last week in shutout wins over UC Irvine and CSUN that vaulted UC Davis to third in the Big West standings.
Recording his third and fourth shutouts of the season, Janssen made seven saves against 18 shots faced over both games and lowered his goals against average to a Big West-leading .887. The redshirt sophomore is having a career year having already played in the most games with the most starts of his career, and has allowed just three goals over his last eight games.
Dieter's game winner against CSUN was his first of the season and the first game winner of this career. He was involved in both of UC Davis' scores this week after assisting on
Zack Lillington's game winner against UC Irvine on Wednesday and is just one point shy of tying his single-season career-high.
Goodman has contributed to all four of UC Davis shutouts and is the only freshman to become a mainstay in the Aggies' starting lineup. He's started 10 of 12 games and leads all Aggies in total minutes with 941 for the season, including playing a full 90 minutes in three straight games. If his lead holds, Goodman would be the first freshman to lead UC Davis in minutes played since Brian Ford in 2011.
The Aggies (3-6-3, 2-1-1) play three of their next four at home beginning with a match Wednesday at Aggie Soccer Field against CSU Bakersfield.
