NEWS & NOTABLES: The UC Davis women's tennis team takes the court for the first time during its championship season this weekend, hitting the road for the "Valley of the Sun" and a pair of duals in Tempe, Ariz. The Aggies open the spring at Arizona State on Saturday at 10 a.m., before taking on Northern Arizona on Sunday, also in Tempe. Senior
Sara Tsukamoto – one of only two seniors on this year's roster – and junior
Yana Gurevich each finished their respective fall seasons with a 6-3 mark in singles play, while freshman
Arianna Stavropoulos took home four victories in singles during the fall season. Tsukamoto and Gurevich were All-Big West Conference selections a season ago, with Tsukamoto earning second-team singles and first-team doubles honors, and Gurevich joining her teammate on the singles second team. This weekend's matches will be the first meetings between the programs since 2019, while the Sun Devils posted a 4-0 win and the Lumberjacks edged the Aggies, 4-3.

NEWS & NOTABLES: Having lost three Big West Conference contests thus far due to COVID concerns, the UC Davis women's basketball team looks to salvage the week with a home contest against Cal Poly on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Aggies, who had their home game against CSU Bakersfield on Thursday canceled due to COVID concerns with the Roadrunners' program, look to turn the tables on an 0-2 conference start after dropping league contests at UC Irvine and UC San Diego last week. Prior to those games, UC Davis had not played a game since upsetting Gonzaga in a battle of mid-major powers at home on Dec. 19. Senior Cierra Hall averaged 17.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 3.5 apg, and 2.0 bpg, during the Aggies' recent trip to Southern California, shooting .458 from the field while averaging 39.0 mpg in the two contests.

NEWS & NOTABLES: Having lost four of its first five games against Big West Conference opponents due to COVID concerns outside of the program, the UC Davis men's basketball team heads down the coast to take on Cal Poly in its only game of the week on Saturday night. The Aggies, winners of five of their last six, took down UC San Diego, 78-71, in their last contest back on Jan. 8, led by 20-point nights from Elijah Pepper (23) and Caleb Fuller (22) – its first game since taking on Portland back on Dec. 22. Cal Poly leads the all-time series, 35-29, but UC Davis has won the last nine straight in the series to help close the gap, including a pair of wins in San Luis Obispo last year by the scores of 69-61 and 68-66 in overtime in late February.

NEWS & NOTABLES: Coming off one of the most successful season openers in the history of the program, the UC Davis women's gymnastics team returns to the University Credit Union Center for the second consecutive Sunday, welcoming Causeway rival Sacramento State back to Davis for a dual. The Aggies and Hornets go head-to-head for the first time this season after the two finished behind Michigan State in a season-opening tri-meet on Jan. 9. UC Davis scored a 194.625 in that contest -- its highest in a home opener since meet-by-meet records are available beginning with the 1998 season, its highest since posting a 194.875 in a dual with Sacramento State in the final meet before the pandemic shut things down in March of 2020, and its highest in a home meet since posting a 194.850 in a quad meet with Washington, Illinois, and Yale, on March 15, 2019. UC Davis tied the school record with a 49.250 team score on beam, while freshman
Megan Ray and senior
Kyla Kessler shared individual honors on the apparatus. Sophomore
Emma Otsu and Ray also took home podium finishes on floor, helping the duo pick up MPSF Specialist and Freshman of the Week honors earlier this week.
