ATHENS, Ohio — Senior midfielder Milou Korthouwer scored her second goal in as many games then assisted freshman Audrey Lee's game-winner in the 54th minute, leading UC Davis to a 2-1 victory over Ohio in collegiate women's field hockey action at Pruitt Field Wednesday.
The Aggies even their record to 2-2. The Bobcats slip to 1-4 overall.
"We love playing Ohio," said head coach Britt Broady. "It's always a tight game and they are dangerous throughout the field. We came out flat and quiet today, and Ohio capitalized on that. I am extremely pleased with our team's response after the first-quarter break. We flipped the switch to play aggressively and with confidence."
Ohio struck immediately with a Katelyn Whittle goal just four minutes into the contest. The Aggies managed five shots in the second quarter then held their hosts to no shots in the third quarter. Korthouwer put UC Davis on the board, converting an assist from Madison Theodore in the final seconds of the third frame.
Korthouwer then assisted Lee for the go-ahead with 6:40 left in the game.
"Izzy Porco lead from the backfield and demanded more from her teammates," said Broady. "Audrey Matthew and Madison Theodore caught fire and moved the ball forward. Our press put their backfield under a lot of pressure and we were able to counterattack with speed. I'm excited for us to continue growing and building from this game."
UC Davis wraps up its first road trip of the season with a contest at Bellarmine on Friday. Pushback is 9 a.m. Pacific.
