Lizzy Tedrow assist in the 28th minute while the Aggies outshot their guests by a 19-9 margin, but UC Davis ultimately fell to Dartmouth in a 3-1 penalty shootout after a 1-1 tie at the end of overtime in a collegiate field hockey game at the Aggie Field Hockey Facility Friday afternoon.
The Aggies move to 0-2 for the year. The Big Green opens its season at 1-0. The game was originally scheduled for 3 p.m. but was moved up by two hours in anticipation of poorer air quality from the nearby wildfires.
Tedrow advanced along the right flank before entering a pass to Theodore in the middle of the circle, then the two-time All-America East performer drove the ball past Dartmouth goalie Isabella Santucci in the final minutes of the first half. Santucci then gave way to Hatley Post, who posted five saves in a shutout second half for the Big Green.Â
Aggie goalie
Kalli Wagnon and defender
Izzy Porco each came up saves in front of the UC Davis cage before Bronwyn Bird hit the equalizer with 4:26 remaining in regulation. The Aggies managed seven more shots in the two 10-minute overtime periods but could not score, while Dartmouth went 0-for-4 in that same span.
In the shootout, Rory Williamson hit the first attempt and Bird converted the third, while UC Davis was unsuccessful on each of its first two strokes.
Audrey Matthew then kept the Aggies alive in the shootout with her score. However, Helen Young made it 3-1 after three attempts, meaning UC Davis needed to finish its third opportunity to keep going. When Post outdueled Aggie
Milou Korthouwer, it clinched the shootout, with Young's proving to be the winner.
UC Davis now hits the road for a Midwest trip, facing Saint Louis at Ohio State on Tuesday, followed by games at Ohio (Sept. 8) and Bellarmine (Sept. 10).Â
